The Hoodoo Snake Doctors
The Grooviest Power Trio in the Universe!

The Hoodoo Snake Doctors (aka "Joe Cool", "The Russ Belville Trio", "Russ Belville & Friends", and "Cap'n Geech & The Shrimpshack Shooters") were formed in 1998 by Allen Wentz, Russ Belville, and Kenny Davis.  The band takes their name from an old Johnny Shines blues tune called "The Hoo-Doo Snake Doctor Blues."
The guitarist, bassist, and drummer all hailed from a short-lived classic rock band called Mr. Happy.  When that band ended, they all began discussing the idea of continuing as a three-piece.  Allen, Russ, and Kenny were all fans of the blues-based power trios of the late Sixties and early Seventies, like Cream, The Hendrix Experience, Grand Funk Railroad, ZZ Top, and Rush.  Convinced that the raw classic sound still had many followers, the three created The Hoodoo Snake Doctors, taking their name from an old blues song.
The Hoodoo Snake Doctors have enjoyed continued booking at Boise's #1 Blues Rock Club, The Blues Bouquet.  They began by learning an eclectic mix of  cover material from traditional and modern blues, classic and "swamp" rock, soul, and funk.  HSD started generating a buzz for their danceable sound, musical variety, showmanship, and strong musical and vocal ability.
As their following has grown, the band has started working on their own original material, and are expanding out of the Boise area to limited engagements all about the Intermountain / Pacific Northwest.  Their latest plans include adding guest musicians at keyboards and horns and recording their first EP of original music.
